During the recording sessions for the LP TECTONIC (Karlrecords, 2026), filmmaker Andi Hofmann visited Simon Berz in Mývatn, located in the northeast of Iceland – a landscape shaped by volcanic activity, tectonic tension, and the eruptive forces of the earth. In this environment, the video TECTONIC RIFT was created. 

The video presents the geysers and geothermal landscapes around Mývatn – natural phenomena that also form the visual center of the Tectonic cover art. Steam fields, bubbling mud, and erupting water fountains mirror the elemental energies that run through the music of the album.

At Berlin’s T10 Studio in 2025, Simon Berz developed the composition TECTONIC RIFT, a sonic reflection on tectonic shifts, geological time scales, and the unimaginable forces of plate tectonics. Icelandic basalt stones, drums, electronics, and field recordings merge into a pulsating stream of sound, oscillating between ritual, drone, and rhythmic eruption.

The video by Andi Hofmann interweaves this music with the archaic imagery of Iceland, creating an audiovisual journey into the inner life of a living planet.

1WAVE

1WAVE is a new improv outfit by Khanate & Blind Idiot God drummer Tim Wyskida and guitar player Dirk Dresselhaus (krautfuzz, faust, Schneider TM etc.), merging decades of exploratory practice in experimental, noise, and avant-garde music. Their collaboration centers on a single, evolving sonic arc: a slowly rising wave that emerges from near-silence, unfolds through a fragile, almost ASMR-like microcosm of texture and tone, and steadily intensifies into a dense interplay of improvised melody andconcrete noise. Over the full duration of a piece, 1WAVE shapes a continuous build toward an overwhelming peak of pure volume and saturation—before the wave finally collapses back into silence. Both minimal and extreme, their approach blurs the line between composition and process, emphasizing duration, tension, and transformation.

Kreisfrequenz

Kreisfrequenz, represented by the symbol ((ω)), is a collaborative project between Ira Hadžić and Dirk Dresselhaus, bringing together the resonant world of gongs and the charged textures of processed electroacoustic guitar. Named after the term for angular velocity, the project symbolizes a shared auditive exploration of motion, rotation, and evolving sound fields. Through this dialogue of metal andelectricity, Kreisfrequenz becomes a space for listening, circling, and discovering sound in continuous transformation.

This is the third part of the ongoing MWM rough - release series, featuring unedited rough mixes of live sessions performed and recorded at Studio ZONE in Berlin. The aim is to preserve and release the music in its purest form, including all possible imperfections, so as not to diminish the power and spirit of the original performance through artificial post-production. It can also be understood as a statement against fear, current trends of exaggerated self-optimization, and AI-generated art. This is music made by humans, and it is meant to sound exactly like that.

# 3 : Gvoon - Version 4 (Schwerefelder)

This unique musical collaboration brings together Thomas Wydler (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds) and Jochen Arbeit (Einstürzende Neubauten) — both former members of the experimental post-punk band Die Haut — political activist and experimental musician Sonja Kosche (faust), and multi-instrumentalist Yoyo Röhm, who co- founded the band Fatal Shore, among others, and collaborated with CAN drummer Jaki Liebezeit in the 1990s. The result is a long-form sonic exploration that bridges avant-garde, post-punk, and ambient traditions. Gvoon – Version 4 (Schwerefelder) presents an excerpt from the first part of the work, which was primarily recorded and produced by Ingo Krauss at the renowned Candy Bomber Studio in Berlin. Krauss worked as the house engineer at Conny Plank’s studio from 1988 to 2001, following Plank’s passing. Having collaborated with both Jaki Liebezeit and Holger Czukay, Krauss carries a direct lineage to the golden era of Krautrock, adding a distinct historical resonance to the project — subtly echoing the spirit of experimental innovation that defined an entire era of German music.

# 4 : Gvoon - Version 5 (Big Son)

Jono Podmore and David Harrow are two influential electronic musicians who first worked together as far back as 1983. Their work spans decades of innovation across experimental, ambient, dub, and techno genres. Podmore, also known as Kumo, has deep artistic ties to CAN through extensive collaborations with Irmin Schmidt and Holger Czukay, played a key role in curating and remastering CAN’s archival material, and edited the seminal book on the life and work of Jaki Liebezeit. Harrow, known for his genre-defying work with Anne Clark, Psychic TV, and as James Hardway, shares Podmore’s commitment to sonic exploration and the avant-garde. Both artists have built international reputations for blending analog synthesis, improvisation, and deep rhythmic sensibilities, echoing the spirit of CAN’s boundary-breaking ethos. Their shared artistic DNA lies in a fearless approach to sound, rooted in the experimental legacy of Holger Czukay and the broader Krautrock movement.

# 5 : Gvoon - Version 6 (There are Penguins)

Jasmine Guffond, Mark Spybey, and Robin Storey unite in this collaboration, bringing together distinct yet interconnected practices in experimental sound. Guffond is a Berlin-based artist, composer, and electronic musician with acclaimed solo releases on Sonic Pieces, Karlrecords, Editions Mego, Superpang, OOH-Sounds, LINE, and Boomkat Editions. Spybey, formerly of Download and Zoviet-France and known for his work as Dead Voices on Air, has collaborated widely and performed with Michael Karoli’s Sofortkontakt!. Storey, also an ex- member of Zoviet-France, is a visual artist and prolific musician who has released over one hundred albums as Rapoon, as well as numerous collaborations including Reformed Faction with Spybey. Together, their work merges decades of exploratory practice into a shared sonic language.

# 6 : Gvoon - Version 7 (Within)

The collaboration between Kim Gordon (ex-Sonic Youth) and J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.), built around material from Gvoon – Brennung 1 by Holger Czukay, bridges decades of experimental rock lineage, highlighting the shared DNA between American noise rock and German Krautrock. Sonic Youth’s groundbreaking use of dissonance, texture, and repetition was—among other influences—shaped by the innovations of CAN and other Krautrock pioneers, who pushed rock beyond traditional structures into hypnotic, improvisational soundscapes. In this project, Gordon’s sound-driven instincts intertwine with Mascis’s signature fuzz-guitar phrasing, while Czukay’s sonic manipulations provide the connective tissue through counteraction—melding fractured rhythms, expansive atmospheres, and avant-garde sensibilities into a living testament to Krautrock’s enduring influence on underground American rock.

# 7 : Gvoon - Version 8 (Cast within The Umbra)

Chandra Shukla (aka Xambuca), Elisa Faires, and Carl Michael von Hausswolff are three boundary-pushing artists united by a shared interest in experimental sound and sonic exploration, most recently expressed in Shukla and Hausswolff’s ongoing project Travelogue—a series of collected audio diaries recorded in Bali, Nepal and Northern Thailand. Shukla’s work blends drone, raga, and subtle electronic textures to create meditative, immersive landscapes; Faires draws on her voice and electronics to craft delicate yet powerful sonic narratives; and von Hausswolff—renowned as one of the Kings of Elgaland-Vargaland and for his conceptual and electroacoustic work, as well as his EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) explorations—transforms minimal tones and resonances into otherworldly experiences. Together, the trio channels Holger Czukay’s restless experimental spirit, merging ambient, electroacoustic, and avant-garde approaches into a collaborative practice that honors his legacy while pushing the boundaries of contemporary sonic art.

# 8 : Gvoon - Version 9 (Beautiful In Here)

Immersion — the long-running collaborative project of Malka Spigel (Minimal Compact) and Colin Newman (Wire) — have reunited with Ronald Lippok and Bernd Jestram of Tarwater for a special re-interpretation of Holger Czukay’s Gvoon – Brennung 1. The four first met in Berlin in the late 1990s and have maintained their creative connection ever since: Ronald played on Malka’s album Every Day Is The First Day, with drums recorded in Bernd’s studio, and later joined Malka and Colin for live shows in 2012, as well as performing with Immersion at Berlin’s Pop-Kultur Festival in 2016. Tarwater were also the first artists featured in Immersion’s Nanocluster collaboration series, beginning with sessions and performances in Brighton in 2017 that led to an album release in 2021. In June 2025, during a visit to Berlin, the four met up with Dirk Dresselhaus, and soon after received an invitation to join the Gvoon – Version 2-11 collaboration series. The song’s lyrics were inspired by a conversation Ronald Lippok once had with Czukay backstage at Kulturbrauerei, Berlin, in the late 1990s, when Tarwater and Czukay shared a concert — a moment that now finds new resonance in the form of this song.

Oren Ambarchi is an Australian multi-instrumentalist who mainly focuses on the exploration of the guitar. He is a prolific solo artist and consummate collaborator who has performed and recorded with a diverse array of artists over the last three decades. crys cole is a Canadian sound artist working in performance, installation and composition. Jim O’Rourke (US/JP) has done various stuff in the making, recording or producing of music and film since the mid 80’s. Ambarchi has collaborated with both O’Rourke and cole for many years in various projects, this project marks the first time that the three have collaborated together.

# 10 : Gvoon - Version 11 (Modlitwa)

For Gvoon – Version 11, Pyrolator (Kurt Dahlke)—a pioneering figure of the German electronic and post-punk scenes—joins forces with Schneider TM (Dirk Dresselhaus), known for his experimental pop, electro-acoustic explorations, and boundary-blurring guitar work, and the Otucha Collective (Agnieszka Kucharska, Dorota Michalak & Ola Zielińska), Berlin based vocal ensemble dedicated to reworking Easter European singing traditions. Together they enter into an ethereal, improvisational dialogue with Holger Czukay’s Gvoon – Brennung 1, shaping a gently shimmering re-encounter with his exploratory spirit. What we hear is a condensed edit of a much longer, free-flowing session—an aural fragment that hints at deeper currents beneath the surface.

Simon Berz & Schneider TM

These three pieces—now exclusively released as the 4th installment of the MWM live series—were recorded during a double-bill performance by Simon Berz and Schneider TM at MOODS in Zurich, Switzerland, on November 30, 2025. The concert took place on the occasion of Berz’s presentation of TECTONIC (out March 27th via Karlrecords), a multimedia format combining live sets with a film shot in Iceland and the live art performance series IMPROSITIONS. At the core of the project are basalt stone plates—formed over at least five million years—which Berz uses as percussion instruments, further processing their raw acoustic properties through electronics and effects. The recordings capture unique moments of encounter: ancient geological material transformed into percussive sound, expanded and recontextualized through real-time electronic manipulation. They also document a world premiere— a mutual live improvisation with Dirk Dresselhaus and the prototype of the experimental electroacoustic Deimel “SPARK” guitar. Equipped with multiple metal springs, headstock and body piezo microphones, and other extended features, the instrument functions as an autonomous sonic system in dialogue with Berz’s lithic percussion. The result is a dense, tactile soundscape that bridges deep time and present immediacy—an exploration of resonance, materiality, and movement.

The unedited recording fuzzkraut 19-2 captures the 19th (and most recent) studio session by the original core trio of the seminal improv-kraut-noise band krautfuzz, and marks their 6th digital release on MWM. Arriving hot on the heels of their widely acclaimed album Live at the Church (feat. J Mascis), which was released as LP/CD on Sulatron Records, this performance finds Imari Kokubo, Derek Shirley, and Dirk Dresselhaus at their most adventurous and uncompromising to date.

An excerpt of the 1st session of the same day, fuzzkraut 19-1 (Emmauswald Edit), was recently contributed to the Emmi Aid, a compilation by the initiative EMMAUSWALD BLEIBT!

Brainwave Music No. III was initially recorded live on October 30th 2021 as part of 10 Brain Wave - sound installation - performances by Ilpo Väisänen, Dirk Dresselhaus (die ANGEL) in the Life on a Leaf house, Turku, Finland.

The concept was based on an interactive system including brainwave interfaces that allowed the two performers to process the sounds of several semi-modular synthesizers via CV with their brain activities. Brainwave Music No. III features double bass clarinet overdubs by Ulrich Krieger (zeitkratzer, Lou Reed Band, Metal Machine Trio).

We are really psyched about the release of this new live album in collaboration with Sulatron Records for physical formats ! The improvisational band krautfuzz, with Imari Kokubo (drums), Dirk Dresselhaus (guitar, vocal), and Derek Shirley (bass) is embossed by an angular-futuristic tension, spanning from fuzzed-out neo-psych-rock, abstract, heavily processed minimalism to pure noise, and is open at the fringes, which also means that they usually invite surprise guests from diverse musical backgrounds for their live shows to play time-transcending music without a safety net while giving some extra attention to communication in-between each other as well as to the individual subconsciousness. Illustrious guest performers so far were Murat Ertel (Baba Zula), experimental sax player André Vida, Eleni Poulou (ex-The Fall) & Hilary Jeffery (zeitkratzer), Xambuca’s Chandra Shukla on processed e-sitar, and J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.), who contributed some adventurous electric guitar explorations in the 2nd part of this live recording, which organically blend into the transcendental sonic approach of krautfuzz.
As the three core members come from a variety of musical activities with the likes of faust, Schneider TM, die ANGEL, Locust Fudge, The Still, Monno, Vladislav Delay Quartet, Piratezombiedog or Hi-Speed Dubbing, the premise is to reduce stylistic concepts to their essence, implement moments of CHANCE and allow inspiration from unexpected styles such as contemporary classical or stochastic music. 
What started with occasional studio sessions in late 2022 has so far led to 5 regular krautfuzz releases and some live shows that left enthusiastic audiences behind.

The NDR Kultur radio play adaptation of Fatma Aydemir's family novel “Dschinns” by Florian Fischer has been awarded the German Audiobook Prize 2025 (Deutscher Hörbuchpreis 2025) in the “Best Radio Play” category. The score was composed by Dirk Dresselhaus aka Schneider TM, who has long been a sought-after composer for film and radio. The jury's statement states: "'Dschinns' gives the unheard and the unprecedented a grand entrance - through the performance of an outstanding ensemble of speakers in the subtle and clever production by Florian Fischer and through the artistically convincing soundscape composed by Schneider TM, whose sounds create worlds here."

“Gvoon - Version 1 contains two recordings that were created independently from each other more than 22 years apart and miraculously formed this musical unit by chance.“

It is a case of pop cultural archaeology. A search for traces in electronic music. After more than 30 years, lost tapes by Holger Czukay that he once recorded “for free disposal” have resurfaced. A sound meditation from 1997, now available for the first time remastered in the original and in a “version” by die ANGEL (Ilpo Väisänen / Dirk Dresselhaus) and Zappi W. Diermaier from the Krautrock legend Faust.

Gvoon - Version 1 is the first part of an extended rework/collaboration series based on the original Holger Czukay file with a wide range of artists which is coming up at MWM during the next couple of months.
