Live at ZODIAK is a recording of an improvised live set by Ilpo Väisänen’s (Pan sonic) and Dirk Dresselhaus’ (Schneider TM) longterm drone & noise project die ANGEL together with krautrock pioneer Günter Schickert (ZIGURI), which was performed 2021 at HAU 1, HAU Hebbel am Ufer theatre in Berlin during ’Bildet Nischen! Rückkopplungen aus dem Zodiak Free Arts Lab’, a festival thematizing a space for non-hierarchical musical experiments and interdisciplinary exchange that was brought to life in late 1967 by electronic music avant- gardists Conrad SchnitzlerHans-Joachim Roedelius and collaborators. Although the Zodiak Club had only existed for a little over a year, it played a significant role in the development of a style of music that would later be called krautrock by hosting early performances of the likes of Ash Ra TempelTangerine DreamKluster, etc.

When Schneider TM was touring the world as a live trio, Dirk Dresselhaus and Michael Beckett (aka Kptmichgan) recorded tracks for two singles that were released under modified project names in 2004 and 2005 within a 7″ series on the Irish label Earsugar and are now available for the first time in digital format.

The Schneider TM Experience: Psychedelic Queen (2004), featuring then live drummer Mek Obaam on electronic percussion, was supposed to be the 2nd part of an ongoing series of cover versions of famous songs by British pop bands that started out with The Light 3000, a cover of the Smiths’ There’s A Light That Never Goes Out in 1999, and combines Queen‘s Don’t Stop Me Now with a minimal yet complex and dubby electronic harshness that was dedicated to Alan Vega and Martin Rev of Suicide. The B side, titled Uh Yeah, Baby!, is an acid noise meditation based on audio interface feedback + voice & percussion and dedicated to Jimi Hendrix.

Dr. DrekMore Time / Rush Moon (2005) are early parts of a mostly still-unreleased bunch of recordings under the Dr. Drek moniker that are based on a core of minimalist and krautrock-inspired rhythm machine tracks as well as improvisations during rehearsals for live shows. A different version of More Time also found its way on the Schneider TM album Skoda Mluvit as the opener in 2006.

Imari KokuboDirk Dresselhaus, and Derek Shirley started out playing free improvisations at the ZONE studio in November 2022. fuzzkraut 15 is their 15th session and second krautfuzz release via MirrorWorldMusic.

The agenda is to boil down stylistic concepts to their essence by playing adventurous, energetic, and time-transcending music without a safety net while giving some extra attention to communication in-between each other as well as to the individual subconsciousness.

krautfuzz is embossed by an angular-futuristic tension, spanning from fuzzed-out neo-psych-rock to abstract, heavily processed minimalism, and is open at the fringes, which, in the case of fuzzkraut 15means the addition of stream of consciousness poetry and overdubs of wind instruments to sport traces of some Sun Ra Arkestra-inspired free jazz vibe within its noisy textures.

Their LIVE PREMIERE in Berlin in autumn 2023 was sold out and celebrated frenetically. It consisted of 2 live sets; the 1st set they played as a trio, and for the 2nd set they invited surprise guest Murat Ertel (of Baba Zula), which inspired the general modus operandi for live shows in the future:

First set as a trio, and after a short break, a second set with surprise guests.

Release concert: 23. March 2024 – 20/21CET – Urban Spree, Berlin

This instant composition titled Gvoon Bloose was originally recorded for Arthur Schmidt’s video installation series “Innen” as part of Gvoon (Global Visions of other Natures) and exposes Dirk Dresselhaus’ solo project Schneider TM in its most bare yet intense form. Performed in one take on a baritone guitar with a bunch of effect pedals through a stereo set of tube amplifiers plus one overdub of breathing, this unedited piece provides an adequate score for the transcendental character of “Innen“, filmed in a black padded cell of the Stasi, which Arthur Schmidt transferred from Berlin to another location in its original condition of 1981, the year of his own imprisonment, and meticulously rebuilt as part of coming to terms with one’s own experiences and dealing with the empathy of others.

MWM rough #2

This is the second part of the ongoing MWM rough – release series on MirrorWorldMusic that features unedited rough mixes of live sessions performed and recorded at the studio ZONE in Berlin. The aim is to keep and release the music in its purest form, including all its possible imperfections, so as not to lose the power and spirit of the original performance through any kind of artificial post-production.

The MWM rough and MWM live series are exclusively available as downloads at MWM bandcamp and later on as streaming on all preferred platforms as well as on occasional physical formats. By purchasing at MWM, you are directly supporting all involved artist.

Landfrauenband” is a project by Maurice de Martin in cooperation with JugendKunstSchule Frankenberg and Sächsischer Landfrauenverband e.V..

The first “Landfrauenband” album “Impromptus on a Prepared Piano” documents the exploration of the possibilities of experimental sound production with the help of a grand piano, which was prepared with screws, iron springs and erasers by contemporary pianist Reinhold Friedl (zeitkratzer) during a workshop. The owners of the instrument had a panic attack when they found out what we were planning to do to their grand piano, but then gave their consent when they learned that such preparation – if carried out professionally – is considered “normal” playing practice in contemporary music and at the same time it would most probably be the first time in Western music history, that a group of women from the countryside would play such music on such a prepared instrument, i.e. an instrument that had almost certainly only come into contact with the 3 B’s (Bach, Brahms, Beethoven) and the like in this place. The pieces are “Instant Compositions“, none of the artists had ever played on a prepared grand piano before. The four pieces are “first takes” and were recorded in a time span of 1.5 hours.

Produced by Maurice de Martin (zeitkratzer); prepared Piano Supervision Reinhold Friedl (zeitkratzer)
