Schneider TM

Schneider TM is a multidimensional music project of Dirk Dresselhaus, named after his nickname Schneider, which oscillates extensively between adventurous electronic pop-music and experimental, sometimes improvised freeform music, while occasionally bringing these and other opposing elements together.

Schneider TM has been operating since the mid 90s and released some albums on City Slang / Mute and Editions Mego including singles like ‘Reality Check’, ‘Frogtoise’ or a cover version of a song by The Smiths called ‘The Light 3000’, a collaboration with Kptmichigan that was hugely acclaimed by the alternative media (like John Peel, The Wire etc.), which have made him been credited as one of the main innovators of a music genre called Indietronic.

Since 1997 Schneider TM performed a couple of hundreds live concerts around the globe including renowned international festivals like CTM (Berlin), Sonar (Barcelona, Rome, Tokyo), Mutek (Montreal, Mexico City), Pukkelpop (Hasselt), Hultsfred Festival (Hultsfred), Frieze Art Fair (London), Phonem Fes- tival (Istanbul), Les Siestes Électroniques (Toulouse), Melt Festival (Gräfenhainichen), Midi Festival (Hyé- res), Motomix Festival (Sao Paolo), Todaysart Festival (Den Haag) and more.

Next to composing music for films, radio plays and theater, Dirk has been active with noise & drone outfits like (die) Angel (w/ Ilpo Väisänen of Pan sonic & guests like Hildur Gudnadottir, Oren Ambarchi, BJ Nilsen or Lucio Capece) with releases on Editions Mego, Karl Records or Edition Telemark.

For a while now, Dirk has also been moving Schneider TM in the direction of instantly composed free- form music, employing varying equipment like processed guitar & sound objects as well as field recor- dings and collaborating with artists like Jochen Arbeit (of Einstürzende Neubauten), Damo Suzuki (ex- Can), Werner 'Zappi' Diermaier (faust), Günter Schickert, video artists like Lillevan and Takehito Koga- nezawa or Japanese dancer Tomoko Nakasato. This rather abstract & soundscape-y approach resulted in a series of album releases like ‘Construction Sounds’, ‘Guitar Sounds’ or ‚‘Con-Struct’, a posthu- mous collaboration with Conrad Schnitzler on Bureau B.
